Gentenkaihi is the fourth single from Kyary Pamyu Pamyu's fifth studio album, Candy Racer. It was released exclusively in digital format on August 17, 2021.
Background and release[]
Gentenkaihi is a play of words on the Japanese word "Gentenkaiki"「原点回帰」meaning "return to origins" and "kaihi" 「回避」meaning "avoidance". Together, they form a portmanteau that loosely translates to "origin avoidance". The song deeply reflects Kyary Pamyu Pamyu's efforts to escape her roots as an innocent icon of Harajuku fashion.[1] The music video further emphasizes this, depicting Kyary retreating from a large, red bow, which is a metaphor for her origins.[2]
